Expert Contributors & Editorial Team

SnugGym is produced by a team of fitness enthusiasts, researchers, and writers united by a specific mission: helping apartment dwellers build effective home gyms without the guesswork, regret, or returns that plague equipment purchases. This page introduces our team, explains our expertise, and outlines how we work with contributors.

Editorial Team

Core Team

Our editorial team combines expertise in fitness, research methodology, and small-space living. Team members hold certifications and credentials relevant to their coverage areas, and all content undergoes editorial review before publication.

Editorial Standards

All team members adhere to our published Editorial Standards and Editorial Policy. Key requirements include:

  • No fabricated testing claims
  • No fake aggregate ratings or misleading statistics
  • Clear distinction between verified fact, evidence-based inference, and informed opinion
  • Transparent disclosure of limitations in research-based analysis
  • Regular content updates with dated change logs

Areas of Expertise

Our team brings expertise across the following domains:

Expertise Area Application
Strength & Conditioning NSCA-certified perspectives on resistance training equipment, programming, and biomechanics
Cardiovascular Training Exercise physiology knowledge applied to compact cardio equipment selection
Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Joint-impact assessment, injury-risk evaluation, modification options
Acoustics & Noise Control Sound transmission in multi-unit residential construction, noise mitigation strategies

AI-Assisted Workflow Disclosure

SnugGym uses AI-assisted research and drafting tools as part of our editorial workflow. All content — regardless of drafting method — is reviewed, fact-checked, verified against manufacturer specifications, and edited by human editors before publication. Editorial decisions, including scoring, recommendations, and final publication approval, remain exclusively human.

Contributor Network

Types of Contributors

We work with two categories of contributors:

Regular Contributors

Regular contributors produce content on an ongoing basis within a specific coverage area. They typically have professional credentials or extensive lived experience relevant to their beat. Regular contributors work through our editorial workflow and are subject to the same standards and review processes as core team members.

Guest Contributors

Guest contributors provide one-time or occasional content on specialized topics. Guest contributions are clearly labeled with the contributor's name and relevant credentials. All guest content undergoes the same editorial review as core team content.

Contributor Qualifications

We value credentials, but we also value lived experience. We work with contributors who bring:

  • Professional credentials — NSCA-CPT, CSCS, NASM, ACE, or equivalent certifications; physical therapy licensure; engineering or acoustics backgrounds
  • Extensive personal experience — Years of home gym ownership in small spaces, demonstrated deep knowledge of specific equipment categories
  • Underrepresented perspectives — Lived experience with disability, limited budget optimization, senior fitness, or other perspectives that expand our coverage
  • Research skills — Ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize published research and manufacturer specifications

We do not require contributors to have journalism backgrounds. We do require contributors to follow our editorial standards and accept editorial guidance.

Contributor Guidelines

Content Standards

All contributors must adhere to the following standards:

Accuracy and Verification

  • All numerical claims must be traceable to a documented source
  • Manufacturer specifications must be cross-referenced against at least two sources
  • Academic claims must reference specific, verifiable research
  • Personal experience claims must be clearly labeled as such

Transparency and Disclosure

  • Contributors must disclose any financial relationships with manufacturers or retailers
  • Contributors must disclose when they personally own or have owned products they are reviewing
  • Contributors must not write about products from which they receive referral commissions outside of SnugGym's standard affiliate program
  • Conflicts of interest must be disclosed before content assignment

Originality

  • All content must be original to SnugGym. Plagiarism — including uncredited paraphrasing of other reviews or guides — is grounds for immediate termination of the contributor relationship.
  • Contributors may draw on publicly available specifications and research, but analysis, framing, and recommendations must be original work.

Tone and Framing

  • Content must follow our Diversity & Inclusion Commitment: inclusive language, body-neutral framing, and accessibility awareness
  • Content must be actionable: readers should know what to do with the information provided
  • Content must be honest about limitations: no product is perfect for everyone, and we say so
